Garage Door Spring Replacement Portland
A garage door relies on properly functioning springs to handle its weight. Garage Door Spring Replacement Portland is essential when springs lose tension, snap, or make opening and closing unpredictable. Weak or broken springs cause the door to slam shut, struggle to lift, or get stuck halfway. Replacing them with the right type—torsion or extension—prevents strain on the opener and ensures smooth, balanced movement.

About the service
Garage Door Spring Replacement Service
A garage door depends on strong, well-balanced springs to function properly. When springs wear out, the door becomes heavy, difficult to lift, or suddenly drops. We replace worn-out, rusted, or broken springs with durable, high-cycle options designed for long-term use. Weak springs put extra strain on openers, causing motors to burn out faster. Our team ensures proper tension adjustment, preventing uneven lifting or jerky movement. Frayed cables, worn pulleys, and loose brackets often go unnoticed until they fail. We inspect the entire system, replacing damaged parts before they cause bigger issues. With precise installation, reinforced hardware, and expert calibration, we keep garage doors running smoothly and safely.
EXCELLENT Based on 162 reviews Kodie TangJuly 7, 2024Trustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. I was able to schedule a same day appointment. Ben came out to look at my garage door. I backed into it and was scared there was damage. He checked it out to determine it was just cosmetic. I super appreciated the prompt response and honesty. Thank you. Disa Juarez-ValerioJune 17, 2024Trustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. UPDATE: within minutes of posting a 3 star review the company reached out to discuss what had occurred. The message from the manager Sean said he wished I would have contacted them prior to posting and "I will do everything possible to make it right with you to make sure you are feeling good with doing business with us and change that review to 5 stars." A few minutes later I received a call from Ben and to be honest I was on the defense expected to be bullied into changing my review but that wasn't the case at all. He apologized, explained how important customer service is to them and he repeated more than once that he didn't want me to feel pressured into changing my review. He listened to my concerns and was perfectly professional throughout, in the endhe gave me a partial refund and made sure that I was fully satisfied before we hung up. I was very impressed by how he handled this situation, he deserves a raise. Now I don't know about you, but to me, this is the epitome of customer service excellence. Can I now recommend this company? Absolutely! With the caveat that I definitely recommend getting an additional competitor's quote so you will end up with the peace of mind of knowing that you contracted not only great company, but at a great price. (Original review below)....... Disclaimer: I did not get a comparative quote from another company and wished I had. First of all, I will say that service was fast and professional. I just had a few things that left me feeling icky. A new garage door opener with remotes and new sensors was replaced today. I felt the labor fee was on the high end of fair. However, I do not for the life of me understand why a $259 liftmaster opener was marked up to $850. I was told it was because they offer a lifetime guarantee. But only one year of labor. I asked if I could get the garage door without the guarantee and was offered a nice discount on the labor fee in return. Good customer service for sure but still wishing I had gotten a second quote to find out if this is industry standard. Then it came time to pay. They accept venmo, cashapp etc. But charge a 3.5% fee for their credit card. I wasn't prepared for that. I've never been charged a credit card fee by a contractor before and just left me feeling like this company is greedy. SAFETY TIPS
When Do You Need a Garage Door Spring Replacement ?
Garage door springs don’t last forever, and when they start failing, the door becomes unsafe and unreliable. If the door suddenly slams shut, struggles to open, or makes loud creaking noises, the springs are likely worn out. A broken spring can cause the door to get stuck or put unnecessary strain on the opener, leading to costly repairs.
Most standard springs last about 10,000 cycles—roughly 7 to 10 years with regular use. If the door feels heavier than usual or you notice gaps in the springs, replacement is necessary before they snap. Ignoring weak springs can lead to snapped cables or misaligned tracks, turning a simple fix into a bigger issue.
Regular check-ups help catch early signs of wear, preventing sudden breakdowns. Replacing springs before they fail ensures smooth, balanced movement and protects other components from damage. If your garage door springs are worn or broken, call now for a professional replacement.

Why Choose Us
Garage Door Spring Replacement SERVICE
A garage door spring isn’t just a coil of metal—it holds the entire weight of the door. If it fails, the door can drop suddenly, damaging the panels or putting safety at risk. Garage Door Spring Replacement Portland requires precision, from selecting the correct wire gauge to adjusting the right torque for even lifting. Cheap springs wear out fast, leading to frequent replacements and costly emergency repairs.
We work with high-cycle springs designed to last over 10,000 cycles, reducing breakdowns. A snapped cable often follows a worn-out spring, leaving the door unmovable. When cables fray or pulleys wear out, they need immediate replacement to prevent accidents. Adjusting the tension incorrectly can lead to an unbalanced door that strains the opener, shortening its lifespan. Every spring replacement includes a full system check to prevent hidden failures.

about us
professionals in Garage DOOR SERVICES
Portland’s damp climate speeds up rust and wear on garage door springs, making replacements a necessity sooner than in drier areas. PDX Garage Door specializes in Garage Door Spring Replacement Portland, ensuring springs are rated for heavy use and weather resistance. Whether working with Clopay, Amarr, or Wayne Dalton doors, proper calibration is key to long-term durability.
We replace torsion and extension springs for single and double-car doors, adjusting tension to match door weight and opener power. Standard springs wear out after 7-10 years, but high-cycle options last significantly longer. LiftMaster and Chamberlain openers rely on well-balanced springs to function properly—worn-out springs put extra strain on motors, leading to premature failure. Every replacement comes with reinforced brackets, safety cables, and thorough system testing for smooth, reliable operation.

FAQ’s
Frequently Ask Questions
A garage door that feels heavier than usual, makes a loud snapping sound, or opens unevenly likely has a worn-out spring. If the door slams shut instead of lowering smoothly, the tension is off. Visible gaps in the coil or rust buildup are also warning signs. Waiting too long can cause sudden failure, leading to a stuck or unbalanced door.
Replacing a spring requires special tools and knowledge of proper tension adjustments. A high-tension spring can snap unexpectedly, causing serious injury. Incorrect installation leads to misalignment, extra strain on the opener, or an unbalanced door. Professionals use precise measurements and reinforced hardware to ensure safe, long-lasting results. Attempting a DIY fix without experience often results in costly repairs down the line.
Most standard springs last around 10,000 cycles, which translates to about 7-10 years, depending on usage. High-cycle springs can last up to 20,000 cycles, making them a better option for households that use their garage frequently. Factors like weather, rust, and improper maintenance can shorten their lifespan, requiring earlier replacement. Regular inspections help catch issues before they turn into major problems.
If a spring snaps while the door is moving, the door can suddenly slam shut, causing potential damage or injury. In some cases, the opener may keep running but struggle to lift the door, burning out the motor. A broken spring also puts excessive strain on cables and pulleys, leading to further failures. Immediate replacement is necessary to restore proper function and prevent additional damage.
Springs wear out at the same rate, so if one breaks, the other isn’t far behind. Replacing both at the same time ensures even tension, preventing the door from tilting or becoming misaligned. A new spring paired with an old one creates uneven weight distribution, causing premature wear on the opener and tracks. Changing both at once saves time and reduces the risk of future breakdowns.
